  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from J. A. -- BRILLIANT. HORRIFIC. HAUNTING. : So, where to begin? With a plot overview, I suppose. This is a mix of fact and fiction: A fictional character mixing with real people and real events. It’s set in the second world war and features a fictional doctor, who due to being half Jewish, ends up at Auschwitz. By virtue of the fact he is quite a highly-qualified doctor, he escapes the gas chambers by becoming the assistant to Dr Mengele, the real-life “Angel of Death” Nazi doctor. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Reader -- Shocking and brilliant! : Although I normally read historical fiction on my Kindle, I was intrigued enough to buy this book. When it arrived in the post, I opened it with a degree of trepidation about what I might read inside. Be warned, it's not for the fainthearted and Dr Mounter pulls no punches with his descriptions of the atrocities. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 16, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Leza -- Powerful : This was a hard book to read. Not because of the writing but because of the truth of the subject. The diary style made for easy reading but the subject matter made you think of the atrocities that people suffered during the war. it's hard hitting but highlights the struggles and the people behind this awful event. The feelings from some of the characters and what they do are easy to relate too, others you just wont. The book highlights just how awful human beings can be and how easy it can be to become like that after losing everything including simple human rights such as food, water and a right to just exist. I would recommend this book to people interested in the war and those that have an interest in to the psyche of people put under the most extreme pressure any human being can face. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mike -- A incredible read : This book is extremely well written and whilst horrifying it has the ability to draw you in. It makes you think about what happened in the concentration camps and all those involved. Whilst it does not justify the actions of those involved it makes you think and look at the events from an entirely new angle. It wasn’t all black and white or good and evil. Sometimes being the bad guy is the only way to protect those that you love most. This book really makes you think about how people did what they had to in order to survive. It is incredible well written a and uses a writing style new to me which allowed me to become the main character, doctor sarkany, whilst reading and live through the events through his eyes and hand. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Robin mounter -- Well written. : The level of historical literacy in Broken Oaths allows the reader to experience the horror of an anti-Semitic Atmosphere during the Second World War. It’s dark and terrifying nature progresses further as the Author does well to capture the extreme immorality towards the Jews as the story and characters develop.
